Performed surgical care for cleft lip and cleft palate.

During this past week of February Smiles International Foundation led by Dr. Jeffrey J. Moses returned to Los Cabos. Together with the Los Cabos Rotary Club, lead by Nordstrom Hatfield and in collaboration with a team of experts, they performed their surgerys for patients with cleft lip and cleft palate.

In this first semester of 2023, 88 surgical procedures were performed, 22 babies and children received cleft reconstructive surgeries performed under intensive pediatric general anesthesia. 45 patients were remotely examined through telemedicine as a preventive measure against COVID-19.

The team of experts in this initial stage was a total of 22 people, including doctors, nurses, and language therapists. The estimated relative value of the medical-surgical mission was $591,600.00 USD, exceeding the figures reported in 2022, where 68 surgeries were performed on 12 patients with an estimated value of $457,700.00 USD.

Smiles has been coming to Los Cabos twice a year for 12 years, and has treated more than 350 children. Smiles provides continuous and constant monitoring of the children who enter the program, providing them with all the operations and rehabilitation therapies.

The team of this last surgical mission was a total of 18 people between Nurses and Speech Therapists.
